Why Do Florists Have Minimums?

(And Why It Actually Protects the Beauty of Your Wedding Flowers)

One of the questions we get most often is: “Why do florists have a minimum?”

If you’ve never worked with a professional floral designer before, it can seem confusing — or even frustrating. But floral design isn’t a “quick serve” business. It’s more like a bakery: everything is made fresh, from scratch, with perishable ingredients that need to be handled just right.

Flowers Come in Bunches, Not Singles

When we design for weddings, we purchase flowers by the bunch — not by the stem. Think of it like shopping at the market: you can’t buy just one banana or one orange out of a bag. If your bouquet uses twelve flower varieties, that means twelve bunches to buy.

From those bunches, we hand-select the most beautiful and durable blooms for your arrangements. The stems that don’t meet our standards are set aside. That’s how we ensure your flowers look flawless and last beautifully throughout your celebration.

Minimums Support Quality, Expertise, and Artistry

Our minimums aren’t arbitrary — they reflect what’s needed to design at the level of quality we’re known for. That includes:

  • Premium flowers from trusted growers and suppliers

  • Conditioning and prep to ensure each bloom opens perfectly

  • Experienced artistry — the years of design training that turn a pile of flowers into something breathtaking

Sure, there are cheaper options out there. But if you’re drawn to our work, it’s likely because of our commitment to beauty, detail, and quality. That’s what your floral minimum helps support.

Behind the Scenes: What You Don’t See

For every wedding, there are hours (and often weeks) of behind-the-scenes work — from sourcing and ordering, to cleaning, wiring, and bloom prep. Each design is custom-made for you, not pulled off a shelf.

Fewer Weddings, More Focus

We intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each season. That focus allows us to give every couple our full attention — their flowers, their colors, their vision. When we’re booked, we’re truly booked. Adding “just a few more” pieces would mean cutting corners, and that’s not who we are.

The Heart of It All

Our minimums aren’t about limits — they’re about ensuring you receive our best work, made with the best blooms nature has to offer. We want every bouquet, centerpiece, and boutonniere to feel worthy of your once-in-a-lifetime day.
